Our History

It was in March 1987, when four friends, Mr.Saleem Akhtar, Mr.Sabir Hussain, Prof.M.Akram and Mr.M.Nawaz, who had young children growing up, thought they needed to teach Quran, Islamic studies and mother tongue to their children.

A local facility was needed as Birmingham establishments with facilities were over seven miles away. A local Infant School was hired on Sundays to teach these subjects to the thirteen children by their parents. The idea caught on and numbers started increasing, hence more qualified teachers were sought to do regular teaching.

We then moved over in Sept.1988 to our present premises at St.Peters Catholic School, Whitefield’s Road Solihull. The School has proved very popular and more and more parents brought their children to SMCA Sunday School.

The School proved to be a nucleus for Muslim parents, who began to enjoy the social functions and get together at the School. Eid Celebrations,Taravee Prayers and School Outings were very popular with all.

The Success of this system led us to formerly register a charity in 1992 called the Solihull Muslim Community Association and the SMCA moved on a more formal basis with School,Friday Prayers,Taravee and Eid Prayers.

Friday Jumma prayers are at Solihull Women’s Institute, 745 Warwick Road, Solihull B91. The speech starts 1.15pm and prayers stand at 1.35pm The prayers finish around 10 minutes to five minutes prior to 2pm.
